Man On A Mission: 55,000 and counting and he won't stop until he's reached at least one million students.

AUGUSTA- Fresh off his tour with the cast of the upcoming Disney motion picture Queen of Katwe, and working closely with Academy Award winning actress Lupita Nyong'o (see picture attached), Orrin C. Hudson, a motivational speaker who founded the nonprofit organization Be Someone Inc. to help inspire at-risk youth through the game of chess, will be leading a youth Initiative in Augusta, June 30, partnering with The Richmond County Marshal's Office, and the  Tabernacle Baptist Church. The Air Force veteran, former Alabama State Trooper and recipient of the FBI Director’s “Community Leader” award, and recent winner of DeKalb County CEO ‘s “Hero Award,” will reveal his not-so-secret weapon during the training.  Hudson explained, “That secret weapon… a  bishop, knight and a pawn, not a gun, the game of chess!”  The chess champion uses a life-sized chess board and his unique instructional and motivational skills as his “weapons of choice” that not only gets the attention of his students but makes lasting - life changing - impressions.

According to Hudson, Be Someone, Inc.’s commitment is “to serve as a firewall between our children and self-destructive patterns that too often lead them into desperation, crime and ultimate failure.” He explained, “We have trained over 55,000 students in 22 states. Be Someone delivers a consistent, inspiring message of hope within our communities that has proven to make a lasting difference."  He added, "We call our process 'One Move At A Time' and we teach every move has a consequence and how to make the right moves.”  Hudson is devoted to making a difference in every community he visits.  “All that is required for our communities to be destroyed is for good people to do nothing,” he stresses. “We MUST get in the game! The life we save may be our own!”

The Richmond County Marshal's Office, in partnership with Tabernacle Baptist Church, and in an effort to help empower our youth, is excited to bring youth mentor and anti-violence activist Orrin "Checkmate" Hudson to Augusta on June 30.  Hudson is an Air Force veteran and a former Alabama State Trooper and has been awarded the prestigious FBI Directors Community Leader Award. Since 2000, Hudson's nonprofit "Be Someone Inc." has brought 55,000 students the life-affirming message of "Peace, Positivity and Purpose." Hudson will use a life-sized chessboard to bring life lessons to students in our area, teaching them to outthink the competition. Hudson says these young people will learn to respect authority and others, think before they make dangerous moves and give more than they take. This event will take place on June 30 at Tabernacle Baptist Church on Laney Walker from 1:00 P.M-4:00 P.M. This event is FREE to the first 100 registered youth ages 10-18.
